Monitor placement: height, distance, angle
**Height**: Top of monitor at eye level when sitting. If monitor is lower, you'll hunch (neck/back pain). Use monitor arm or stand to adjust. **Distance**: 24–30 inches from eyes (arm's length). Too close = eye strain. Too far = can't see details. **Angle**: Slightly downward (15–20 degrees). Mimics natural gaze. Straight ahead or upward causes neck strain. Note: Multiple monitors? Position side monitor at same height, turned 30–45 degrees inward.
Keyboard and mouse placement
**Height**: Elbows at 90 degrees, wrists straight. Keyboard height = desk height (or slightly lower). Wrist rest optional but helps prevent strain. **Position**: Keyboard centered, 4–6 inches from desk edge. Mouse next to keyboard, same height. Keep mouse close to reduce arm extension. **Distance**: Don't reach far to mouse. If arm extends fully, mouse is too far away.
Lighting setup for gaming
**Backlight**: LED strip behind monitor (bias lighting) reduces eye strain. Matches monitor color temperature. $15–30. **Main light**: Room lights or desk lamp on opposite side of monitor (prevents glare). Dimmable preferred. **Avoid**: Direct glare on monitor, shadows on keyboard, bright light behind you (contrast strain). Ideal: Soft ambient light + bias lighting behind monitor.
Desk height and chair ergonomics
**Desk height**: 28–30 inches is standard. Your elbows should be at 90 degrees when typing/gaming. Gaming desk with cable management is better than regular desk. **Chair**: Back support critical for 8+ hour sessions. Lumbar support, height-adjustable, armrests. $150+ is worth it.
Cable management and organization
**Power strip**: Mounted under desk (hidden). All devices plugged into one spot. **Cable tray**: Under desk, organizes cables. Prevents tangling and makes changes easier. **Velcro straps**: Bundle cables per device (monitor, PC, peripherals). **Result**: Cleaner desk = easier cleaning + professional look.
