Mac (M4/M5 Pro/Max) is more stable, faster at ProRes export, and the only choice for Final Cut Pro. Windows (RTX GPU) has more raw GPU compute per dollar for DaVinci Resolve CUDA effects. Both are excellent for 4K H.265 editing — choose based on your primary NLE and whether you use ProRes natively.

For a typical YouTube workflow (10–30 min videos), 2TB NVMe internal storage handles active projects comfortably. Store finished exports and archives on external drives (2–4TB external SSD or HDD). Working from an external SSD via Thunderbolt is fully viable for active projects — 2,500+ MB/s transfer sustains any 4K codec.
