What the spec table doesn't show
Both laptops use the same M4 Pro chip and share identical CPU/GPU/Neural Engine cores — performance per task is identical when both machines have adequate thermal headroom. The 16-inch model's larger chassis allows a bigger heat sink, sustaining the same performance longer before thermal throttling under extreme load (long 8K exports, running Stable Diffusion for hours). For typical video editing — 4K timeline, color grading, H.264/H.265 export — the 14-inch sustains full performance indefinitely. The difference only appears under prolonged extreme computational load.

If you edit video at a desk with an external display, the MacBook Pro 14 M4 Pro offers identical performance in a lighter, more portable form factor at a lower price. Choose the MacBook Pro 16 M4 Pro if you edit on the built-in screen regularly, do unusually sustained heavy exports, or simply prefer the larger display.
