Value Score Breakdown

Our Verdict

The MacBook Air 13-inch M5 is the strongest recommendation in this category for Final Cut Pro users and editors working with 4K H.264 or ProRes footage. The M5 chip delivers 153 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, a 28% increase over M4, and Final Cut Pro export times improve roughly 17% over the M4 Air. The fanless design stays silent during editing sessions; sustained 4K RAW exports over 30 minutes will cause some thermal throttling without active cooling. At $1,297, it falls below the MacBook Pro M4 Pro variants in this category, which add active cooling, more GPU cores, and configurable unified memory up to 48GB. For editors who work primarily in Final Cut Pro on 4K H.264 or ProRes at moderate clip lengths, the Air M5 is the most efficient buy at this price. Windows editors who need CUDA-accelerated GPU effects in Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve should look at the ASUS V16 RTX 5060 ($1,417.06) instead.
