Our Verdict
The GIGABYTE X870 AORUS ELITE is a well-equipped AM5 board with AMD's X870 chipset, which requires USB4 ports and PCIe 5.0 for graphics and M.2 storage, and it adds WiFi 7, fast wired networking and three M.2 slots. It supports Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 processors with DDR5, and has about 470 Amazon ratings at 4.5 stars. The AORUS Elite line sits between GIGABYTE's entry Eagle boards and the X870E models, with stronger power delivery suited to Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 chips under sustained load. For gaming alone, a B850 board performs the same, so the reasons to choose X870 are USB4 and the extra connectivity. Choose the X870 AORUS ELITE for an AM5 build that uses fast external drives or docks over USB4; otherwise a B850 board is better value.
