Our Verdict
The Ring Video Doorbell 4 is one of the most popular video doorbells, with more than 17,000 Amazon ratings at 4.6 stars. It records 1080p HDR video and includes colour pre-roll, which captures a few seconds of video from before motion was detected, so you see what triggered the alert. It runs on a rechargeable battery or existing doorbell wiring and works closely with Alexa and Echo devices. Saving and reviewing recordings requires a Ring Home subscription; without it you get live view and alerts only. Choose the Ring Doorbell 4 for a polished, reliable doorbell in an Alexa home if you are happy to pay for Ring's plan; for free local recording, the TP-Link Tapo D225 stores video on a microSD card.
