Value Score Breakdown
Our Verdict
The Toshiba X300 4TB is a performance desktop hard drive spinning at 7,200 RPM with a 256MB cache, which makes it quicker at moving large files than 5,400 RPM drives such as the WD Blue 4TB and Seagate BarraCuda 4TB. Toshiba markets the X300 for gaming PCs and creative workstations that keep a drive busy, and it uses conventional (CMR) recording, which handles heavy writing better than the SMR recording in some budget drives. It carries a 2-year warranty and about 670 Amazon ratings at 4.4 stars, a smaller record than WD's and Seagate's mainstream lines. In our price data it has been one of the cheaper 4TB internal drives per terabyte. Choose the X300 4TB as a secondary drive for a game library, video projects or backups in a desktop; keep your operating system on an SSD.
