The Apple HomePod (2nd generation) is a smart speaker that doubles as an Apple Home hub, enabling remote access and automations, and it supports Matter and Thread devices. It plays spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, and Apple's audio reputation makes it one of the best-sounding hubs available. It requires an iPhone or iPad to set up, so Android households can't use it. Our Amazon listing has only 40 ratings at 4.7 stars, too few to say much, though the HomePod is widely sold through Apple directly. Choose the HomePod for an Apple Home setup where music quality matters; if you only need a hub, the Apple HomeView or a HomePod mini cost less, and for Alexa homes the Echo 4th Gen is the equivalent.
