The Crucial X9 1TB is a compact portable SSD rated at up to 1,050 MB/s read over USB 3.2 Gen 2, with drop resistance rated to 7.5 feet by Crucial, a 3-year warranty and more than 8,000 Amazon ratings at 4.5 stars. That speed is near the limit of the standard 10Gbps USB ports most laptops and Macs have, so it moves files as quickly as pricier drives on those machines; a 50GB folder copies in under a minute in ideal conditions. It works with Windows, macOS, iPads with USB-C, and as extended storage on game consoles. It has no weather sealing, unlike the SanDisk Extreme, which adds IP65 dust and water resistance. In our price data the X9 has often been one of the cheaper 1TB portable SSDs per terabyte. Choose it as an everyday backup and transfer drive; for outdoor work, the SanDisk Extreme is tougher, and on a 20Gbps port a Gen 2x2 drive is faster.
