The Lexar ES3 1TB is the lowest-priced 1TB portable SSD in this category at $174.99. It reads at 1,050 MB/s and writes at 1,000 MB/s via USB 3.2 Gen 2, double the capacity of the SSK SD500 at the same speed tier. At $174.99 it is $25 less than the WD_BLACK P40 1TB ($199.99) and $55 less than the Samsung T9 1TB ($229.99). The ES3 caps at 1,050 MB/s; the P40 and T9 both reach 2,000 MB/s on Gen 2x2 ports. For most laptop-to-drive file transfers on USB-A or standard Gen 2 connections, 1,050 MB/s is not the practical bottleneck. If your machine has a Gen 2x2 port and you regularly move files over 50GB, paying $55 more for the T9's 2,000 MB/s yields a noticeable difference. For everyday backup and portable storage, the ES3 is the correct value pick at this price.
