Our Verdict

The Samsung T7 2TB is a slim aluminum portable SSD rated at 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write over USB 3.2 Gen 2, with password protection backed by AES 256-bit hardware encryption through Samsung's software. It has more than 5,000 Amazon ratings at 4.7 stars and a 3-year warranty. The metal body and small size make it a good everyday carry for moving projects between home and office or backing up a laptop. It is not weather-sealed; the T7 Shield adds IP65 dust and water resistance. In our price data the T7 2TB has usually cost more per terabyte than rivals at the same speed, such as the Crucial X9 and SanDisk Extreme 2TB, so you pay for the build and the brand. Choose the T7 2TB for a compact, well-made drive; if your computer has a 20Gbps USB port, the T9 2TB is twice as fast.
