Our Verdict

SanDisk's standard Portable SSD is the slower sibling of the Extreme line, rated at up to 800MB/s read instead of 1,050MB/s or more. That gap sounds larger on paper than it feels in practice: an 800MB/s drive still copies a 50GB folder in roughly a minute, many times faster than any portable hard drive. SanDisk rates it for drops of up to two metres and backs it with a three-year warranty, and it has one of the largest review bases in the category. What it lacks is the Extreme's IP rating and carabiner loop, so it is better suited to a desk drawer or laptop bag than a camera bag in the rain. Buy it when it is noticeably cheaper than the Extreme or the Samsung T7, since the brand reliability is the same. If it sells at the same price as those drives, take the faster one.
