The Seagate SkyHawk 4TB is a surveillance-specific hard drive, not a general desktop storage drive. Its ImagePerfect firmware is tuned for continuous video write streams from up to 64 simultaneous camera feeds and 24/7 operation in DVR and NVR systems. At $159.99 it costs $36 less than the Seagate BarraCuda 4TB ($195.99), but that price difference does not make it a desktop bargain. Desktop PCs, gaming builds, and NAS enclosures have different I/O profiles that the SkyHawk firmware is not optimized for. It carries a 3-year warranty with Seagate Rescue data recovery services, relevant for surveillance deployments where drives run continuously. Buy this only for a dedicated security camera recording system. For desktop secondary storage, the Toshiba X300 4TB (CMR, 7200 RPM) or the Seagate BarraCuda 4TB are the correct picks. For a NAS, the WD Red Plus 12TB is built for that workload.
