What the spec table doesn't show
The Samsung 870 EVO uses Samsung's proprietary MJX controller paired with V-NAND, which gives it a larger and more consistent SLC write buffer than the WD Blue SA510's Silicon Motion SM2259 controller. In a sustained 64GB file copy test, the 870 EVO dropped to TLC write speeds 30–40 seconds later than the WD Blue. For system drives and media consumption, this difference is invisible. For frequent large file moves, it's noticeable.
Verdict
Samsung 870 EVO is the stronger drive technically. But if the WD Blue SA510 is $10 or more cheaper on the day you're buying, take the WD — the performance gap won't affect typical use.
