Both deliver similar gaming frame rates at 1440p and above. The i5-14600K uses the LGA1700 socket (compatible with existing Z690/Z790 boards), while the Ryzen 5 7600X uses AM5 — the newer platform with a longer upgrade path. If you are building new, AM5 offers better long-term upgrade options. If you already have an Intel board, the i5-14600K is the easier choice.
For gaming at 1440p and 4K, GPU is the bottleneck — not the CPU. A Ryzen 5 7600X or i5-14600K will not limit any GPU available today including the RTX 4090. The only scenario where you need a higher CPU budget is heavy CPU-bound workloads: video encoding, 3D rendering, or running multiple VMs.
