The ASUS RT-AX1800S is an entry-level dual-band WiFi 6 router that brings ASUS's software to a budget price. ASUS includes network security and parental controls without a subscription, plus a built-in VPN server, features that some rivals charge for monthly. It supports AiMesh, so you can add another ASUS router later to extend coverage instead of replacing it. AX1800 is the lowest common WiFi 6 tier, which comfortably handles gigabit-or-slower internet plans in an apartment or small home, but it does not have the range or capacity for a large house with many connected devices. Its ports are gigabit, not multi-gig. Choose it if you want a small, reliable router with good free software and plan to grow into a mesh setup later. For more speed and range at a small step up, the TP-Link Archer AX55 AX3000 is the better raw performer.
