Our Verdict

The Blue Yeti is one of the best-selling USB microphones, with more than 57,000 Amazon ratings at 4.6 stars. Its four switchable pickup patterns (cardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional and stereo) let one mic record a solo voice, a round-table conversation, a face-to-face interview or a musical instrument. It plugs straight into a computer and has a headphone jack and gain control. As a condenser mic, it picks up more room sound and keyboard noise than dynamic mics, so it works best in a quiet room with the right pattern selected. Choose the Blue Yeti if you record several people or need pattern flexibility; for a solo voice in a noisy room, a dynamic mic such as the FIFINE AM8 or Shure MV7+ sounds cleaner.
