Our Verdict

The UGREEN 40Gbps enclosure is the value route to USB4 speed. It works with USB4 and Thunderbolt 3 and 4 ports, where a fast PCIe 4.0 drive can reach roughly 3,000 MB/s or more, about three times a 10Gbps enclosure. That is fast enough to edit high-bitrate video straight off the drive on an Apple Silicon Mac or a USB4 laptop. Instead of a fan, it relies on an aluminium double-sided fin design to shed heat, which keeps it silent. It still works on older USB ports, just at their lower speed. Buy it if your computer has USB4 or Thunderbolt and you work with large files. On a regular 10Gbps USB-C port, a cheaper 10Gbps enclosure performs the same.
