The WD_Black SN8100 4TB is one of the fastest consumer SSDs you can buy, rated up to 14,900 MB/s read and 11,000 MB/s write over PCIe 5.0. Unlike earlier Gen5 drives it runs cool enough that WD sells it without a bulky heatsink, which helps it fit under a motherboard's own M.2 cover. It has 1,100 ratings at 4.8 stars and a 5-year warranty. The catch is that games and everyday apps barely benefit from Gen5 speed; the gains show up in moving huge files, video editing and AI model loading. It also needs a motherboard with a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, or it runs at Gen4 speed. Choose it for a high-end workstation or a new AM5 or Intel build where you want the fastest 4TB drive; for gaming alone, a Gen4 4TB drive costs far less.
