Value Score Breakdown
Our Verdict
The WD Elements 20TB is a desktop external hard drive with far more capacity than any portable drive: a 3.5-inch drive in an enclosure that needs mains power, connected over USB 3.0. Twenty terabytes on one drive suits whole-family backups, large photo and video archives, or a media library for a home server, without building a multi-drive NAS. It has about 1,000 Amazon ratings at 4.1 stars, a lower average than WD's portable drives. In our price data its price has swung widely, partly when third-party sellers took over the listing, so check the seller and compare with its usual price before buying. Choose the Elements 20TB when you need one very large backup volume on a desk; keep a second copy of anything irreplaceable, and consider a NAS with redundancy if you want protection against a single drive failing.
