The extra storage matters if you keep photos, downloaded videos or large apps on the laptop itself rather than in the cloud, and storage cannot be added inside a MacBook later. Memory is still 8GB, so it is aimed at the same everyday workloads as the base model rather than heavy creative work. Buy it if 256GB feels tight or you want fingerprint login. If you need more memory for editing or many open apps, the MacBook Air M5 with 16GB is the better step up.
