The ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro is a specialized device for a narrow buyer segment: competitive gamers and power users who need maximum wireless bandwidth across multiple high-demand devices simultaneously. At $679.99 for quad-band WiFi 7 with 30 Gbps aggregate throughput, it is 4× the price of the TP-Link BE550 tri-band. The quad-band design reserves dedicated bands for different device classes — gaming, 4K streaming, IoT — reducing contention in densely connected homes. ASUS GameFirst, built-in VPN, and hardware-level QoS traffic prioritisation are the specific value add over non-gaming routers. Trade-off: actual WiFi speed is bottlenecked by internet plan speed, not router throughput; for most home internet plans the extra bands are underutilised.
