Our Verdict

The Rode PodMic USB is a dynamic broadcast microphone with both USB-C and XLR outputs and Rode's built-in audio processing, which adds compression and EQ for a polished podcast sound straight out of the box. It has about 1,300 Amazon ratings at 4.3 stars. The dynamic capsule rejects keyboard, fan and room noise well, suiting untreated home offices and apartments. Its heavy metal body needs a sturdy boom arm. Compared with the XLR-only RODE PodMic, you pay more for USB convenience and processing; compared with the FIFINE AM8, you pay for Rode's sound and build. Choose the PodMic USB for a professional-sounding podcast mic that works over USB today and XLR later; on a budget, the FIFINE AM8 covers the same idea.
