Our Verdict
The Samsung Odyssey G51C is a 27-inch QHD gaming monitor with a VA panel, a 165Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium, aimed at gamers who value contrast and smooth motion. Its VA panel has a 3000:1 contrast ratio, giving much deeper blacks than IPS monitors, which helps in dark games and films. It connects over HDMI and DisplayPort and has about 130 Amazon ratings at 4.5 stars, a thin record. VA panels can show some smearing in fast-moving dark scenes, and colour accuracy is lower than good IPS monitors such as the Dell S2725DS, which is sharper for work but only 100Hz. Choose the G51C for a dedicated 1440p gaming setup where contrast and refresh rate matter more than colour accuracy; for mixed work and play, a QHD IPS monitor is the safer all-rounder.
