Our Verdict

The Seagate IronWolf Pro 16TB is a professional NAS hard drive at 7,200 RPM with a 256MB cache and conventional (CMR) recording, rated for a 300TB-per-year workload in enclosures of up to 24 bays and backed by a 5-year warranty with Seagate's Rescue data recovery. Those ratings suit always-on systems with several users, such as small-business file servers, rather than a quiet 2-bay home NAS. Its Amazon record of about 860 ratings at 4.0 stars is lower and thinner than the standard IronWolf line's 13,000 ratings at 4.5 stars. Amazon itself has often been out of stock, so third-party sellers set the price; check the seller before buying. Choose the IronWolf Pro 16TB for a busy multi-bay NAS where the longer warranty and recovery service justify the cost; for a home NAS, the standard IronWolf 12TB is quieter and cheaper.
