The Synology DS225+ is the mainstream upgrade choice for users who previously owned an entry-level Synology or want the most reliable NAS software without stepping into prosumer pricing. DSM remains the most complete NAS operating system available — first-party apps for backup, photo management, surveillance, and Plex work out of the box. At $364.99 diskless, the 1GbE port caps LAN transfers around 110 MB/s, a real limitation if you edit large files over the network. The DS225+ is the right call for home offices and small teams who will use DSM-native features like Active Backup for Business, Hybrid Share, or Synology Photos, and are not bandwidth-constrained on a gigabit LAN.
