Value Score Breakdown

Our Verdict

This is the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop with the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite, 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD, and Amazon sells it directly. The X Elite adds CPU cores over the X Plus version, which helps with photo exports, large spreadsheets and running many apps at once, and the 1TB drive doubles the storage. The 120Hz touchscreen, keyboard and ports are the same across both models, and Microsoft rates it at up to 20 hours of battery life. It runs Windows 11 on Arm, which handles Office, browsers and most modern apps natively, but some older software and games with anti-cheat still do not run. The new 2026 Surface Laptop with Snapdragon X2 Elite costs about the same with half the storage, so pick this one if 1TB matters more to you than the newer chip. If you only need 512GB, the X Plus model saves a lot of money.
