The WD Red Pro 8TB is the entry capacity of WD's professional NAS line. Compared with the WD Red Plus, it spins at 7,200 RPM instead of 5,640 RPM, is rated for larger NAS enclosures and heavier workloads, and carries a 5-year warranty instead of 3. It uses CMR recording with a 256MB cache, which is what you want for RAID rebuilds. Amazon sells it directly. Its 3.9-star average is shared across the whole Red Pro family and is lower than most drives we list, so buying from Amazon for easy returns is sensible. Choose it for a 4-bay or larger NAS that serves several users or runs constantly; for a quiet 2-bay home NAS used for backups and media, the cheaper Red Plus or IronWolf is enough.
