NETGEAR's GS308 is the eight-port version of the GS305: unmanaged, silent, desktop or wall mountable, and rated highly across a very large number of buyers. Eight gigabit ports leave seven free after connecting to your router, which covers a typical home office or entertainment centre with room to add devices later. There is nothing to configure and nothing to go wrong, which is exactly what most people want from a switch. It does not support multi-gig speeds, PoE or VLANs. If you want to separate smart home devices or prioritise traffic, the GS308E adds those features for a small premium. For plain extra ports, the GS308 and TP-Link's TL-SG108 are the two safe choices.
