The TP-Link TL-SG1024S is a 24-port gigabit switch that works on a desk or in a rack, with a rackmount kit in the box. It is unmanaged, fanless and has a metal case, so it runs silently in a home office or network cupboard. Twenty-four ports suit a small office, a heavily wired home, or a home lab where every room is cabled back to one point, and the cost per port is lower than any smaller switch. It offers no multi-gig ports, PoE or management features, so VLANs and camera power need other hardware. Buy it when a 16-port switch is no longer enough. For a typical home, it is more switch than you need.
