The TP-Link TL-SG105 is the default answer to "I need more Ethernet ports". It adds five gigabit ports behind your router with no setup: plug it in and it works. The metal case is fanless and silent, the ports are shielded, and with well over 100,000 ratings it is one of the most proven networking products on Amazon. One port connects back to your router, leaving four for a PC, console, TV, streaming box or NAS, all at full gigabit speed. It will not do multi-gig speeds or power devices over PoE. If you need more than four spare ports, the eight-port TL-SG108 costs little more; otherwise this is the simplest, most reliable way to wire up a desk or entertainment centre.
