The NETGEAR GS308E is an eight-port gigabit switch from NETGEAR's smart managed Plus line. Out of the box it works like any unmanaged switch, but a simple management interface adds features such as VLANs, quality of service and port monitoring. That is useful for putting smart home devices on their own network, prioritising a work computer during video calls, or spotting which port is misbehaving. It is silent and can sit on a desk or mount on a wall. If you will never touch those settings, the unmanaged GS308 costs less.
